How to travel to the train station?
To travel to Machu Picchu you must board the train at one of the available stations. These are:
1) San Pedro Station (Cusco)
This station is in the city of Cusco, right in front of the San Pedro market. An average of 4 trains depart from there every day. From there the trip to Aguas Calientes takes approximately 4 hours.
2) Poroy Station
This station is 15 kilometers from the city of Cusco. An average of 5 trains depart from there every day. From there the trip to Aguas Calientes takes 3 hours 30 minutes.
3) Ollantaytambo Station
This station is 61 kilometers from the city of Cusco. An average of 30 trains depart from there every day. From there the trip to Aguas Calientes takes almost 2 hours. It is the station most used by visitors.
4) Hydroelectric Station
This station is 214 kilometers from the city of Cusco. An average of three trains depart from there every day. From there the trip to Aguas Calientes takes only 30 minutes. Therefore, visitors prefer to walk the 10 kilometers (2-hour walk).
The most used station is Ollantaytambo as it offers many more daily departures compared to the other stations. To get to the Ollantaytambo station you can take a tourist transport minivan from Pavitos street in the city of Cusco (this street is 5 blocks from the main square of Cusco). The trip takes 1 hour 45 minutes and costs an average of 10 Peruvian soles (3 USD).
If you travel to Machu Picchu with a tour, the service already includes transportation to the Ollantaytambo station.
